Jane E. Franklin, who was born in Merrick, L.I., New York, has been living and working in Germany for over 25 years.
She began her musical career at age 13, when she taught herself the guitar and began to play and sing songs associated with Peter, Paul and Mary; Bob Dylan; and Joni Mitchell. Soon she joined a rock and roll band, and started performing in schools, bars, and clubs on Long Island. At age 17, Jane left Long Island to attend Quinnipiac College in Connecticut, but continued to play guitar and sing in various venues. By the middle of her junior year, however,
she found that the study of biology could not compete with her growing
interest in music. Jane left Connecticut and returned to Long Island, where she enrolled in the Guitar Workshop. It was there that she took her first voice lessons and decided to study classical singing in New York City. During the next two and a half years, she enrolled in the opera program at C.W. Post College, where she won the Jacqueline E. Newman Award for Outstanding Vocalist in 1978, and completed her B.A. degree in music Magna Cum Laude.
Upon graduating, Jane moved to New York City and took advantage of the many opportunities to be trained in various disciplines afforded by the greater metropolitan area. The institutions in which and individuals with whom she studied included:
· Sarah Lawrence College (Opera Workshop)
· Chautauqua Opera Summer Program
· Private singing lessons with Raymond Buckingham, Barbara Conrad,
Patricia Sage
· Luigi's Dance Studio
· Steps 74
· Acting studies with Joseph Bascetta, Lea Jorgenson and others.
In addition to giving numerous concerts, Jane sang many roles in the
productions of various opera companies in and around New York City:
· Hänsel "Hänsel und Gretel"
· Cherubino "The Marriage of Figaro"
· Orlafsky "Die Fledermaus"
· Dorabella "Cosi fan Tutti"
· Raimiro "La Finta Giardiniera" (NY premiere)
· The Third Lady "The Magic Flute"
· Madelon "André Chenier"
· The Mother "Les Conte d'Hoffmann"
· Maddelena "Rigoletto"
· Rubria "Nerone" (NY premiere)
In 1983, she won Third Prize in the Annual Amato Opera Competition.
In the fall of 1983, she went to Germany, where her career broadened to
include the musical. Among productions in which she performed were:
· Cabaret (Wuppertal)
· Der Trommler "Der Kaiser von Atlantis"
· Chips "Ausflug der Gartenzwerge"

Among the other outstanding performers are Jürgen Peiffer on drums, and a superb nine-piece band formed by other well-known musicians from the region.
2000 - 2003
She continues to appear up to 140 times a year in Theater Olpketal and when the time allows, sings the music of her CD in various locations, mostly with a trio or quartett.
2004 - 2007
Jane still works in Olpketal Theater, but performs there less these days. This allows her more time for the other projects she loves. She plays with the "Acoustic Jazz Quartett", the coverbands "The Hot Rockets" and "Timetable", as well as "Santa Babies". In addition, she teaches singing in the music school in Bergkamen.
